Title: Coming Home (Pt. 2)

His prey, from afar, looked so fragile. He leaned against the railing of the library’s second floor, running cold fingers along the polished wooden bar. He imagined the delicate bones of the hands snapping beneath the slightest pressure of his own fingers.

The thought of another kill thrilled him. He dug his nails painfully into the soft wood, felt a splinter bury itself under the nail of his middle finger. The exquisite shot of pain grounded him, focused him on his task.

The prey closed its book and sat back in its chair. It appeared tired. Distracted.

It would be easier that way. For him, not for the prey.

He made a move as the prey stood, his chair scraping noisily against linoleum floor. He could have taken it before it even made the parking lot. He could have, but that would have been too quick.

No, he followed. He hunted. He followed it all the way back to its home.

Soon.

He pressed against the agonizing splinter to focus again as he moved in for the final attack. It would be a good night for him after all.

  1. I'm going to think of this the next time that I am at the library and think that I am being watched. Creepy and awesome.
