Title: Facepalm

He hated this time of year. The weather was beautiful, and the girls wore short shorts and screamed on the rides, hair blowing behind them. Justin followed his friends around the fairgrounds, trying to smile and enjoy himself, but there was no point. The guys weren’t looking at him, just he didn’t look at them, their eyes following the girls as the swings rose from the platform and began to turn.

“Excuse me!” a nasal voice said as Justin was bumped from behind. He glanced down, but didn’t give the young girl more than a glance. He turned to her when she said, “Is this the end of the line?”

“No,” he said, scowling at her. She was barely tall enough to ride this one, but upon turning, he reassessed her age. She was petite, not larger than the average junior high student, but she was definitely older than that, maybe even eighteen, and she was cute. He was so shocked that his scowl didn’t lift until she turned away.

“There?” she asked, pointing.

“Uh, yeah, I think so.” By this time, Justin’s friends were turning to look at the girl.

“Sorry for bumping you,” she said before skipping off.

“Who was that?” Morris asked.

“What did she want?” Jake wondered.

“Why didn’t you follow her?” Harry wanted to know.

Justin put his face in his hand and cursed quietly. He hated this time of the year.
