Title: The Perfect Scene

Sunlight warmed her skin as she buried her face in the crook of her arm. She couldn’t let the other train passengers see her cry. Mark wanted to create a scene and she refused to give him the satisfaction of breaking down in public.

Their relationship had been on the rocks for some time, so it wasn’t really a surprise when he told her he was leaving her for good. What Rosana didn’t expect was him telling her in front of everyone in the dining car, and going into detail what his new girlfriend did better than Rosana. He always did enjoy drama, and apparently their anniversary trip together was the perfect backdrop for his announcement.

Many of the diners looked on with disgust, some with pity. The pity was the worst. It wasn’t until Mark left the dining car, did her hold of her emotions start to break. She was more embarrassed than hurt. Rosana was used to his games, but hated it when he made his games ‘public.’

“Are you okay, dear?” a kind-looking old woman asked, resting her gnarled hand gently on Rosana’s shoulder.

Rosana rubbed her eyes and took a deep breath. “I will be, thank you.”

The old woman smiled and patted Rosana’s shoulder before walking away. A small object fell into Rosana’s lap, startling her. She turned to call out to the old woman, but the woman was gone. The door to the adjoining car was whispering shut.

Rosana stared at the small object in her hand and smiled, a plan forming. Mark sure loved a scene. It was time to see if he liked them as much when the tables were turned against him.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, indeed.
