Title: Magic’s Trap

Jessica shivered in her night clothes as a quiet wind blew through her dungeon like room. A spec of sparkling dust settled on her hand. She looked up to find bright rays of sunshine streaming through her barred window. For the first time since her father locked her door, she had hope.

She sprang from her bed, twirled through the sunbeam, and leaped onto the window seat. Magic had found its path and soon she’d be out of her wretched prison. She didn’t believe the stories like her father. Never would she give away her gift and certainly not to some sorcerer.

A sparkle at a time, magic seeped into her body wrapping her in its warmth. She rolled her body back and forth, hearing lovely music in her head to match her joy. A flash from behind the tree line caught her attention. She looked out and found a man walking towards the house. In black from head to toe he strolled towards her.

Her breathing pushed faster and faster and her trembling hand fell from the bar. Fear and curiosity pulsed through her. She knew him. Shutting her eyes, she blocked the images bombarding her thoughts.

Her heart told her this was the one, her match in all things, but why was he here? Had he come for her magic or for her?
